Just arrived back in Australia after a visit to Scotland, where, as well as doing some of the touristy things, I did some promoting of my book.
I was interviewed by the Glasgow Times and the Clydebank Press about my book and my reason for my journey (see articles below). My book in now in the Glasgow libraries.
I met up with some old school friends from 'class of '57' as well as speaking to some community groups, the highlight of which was talking to the children of Scotstoun Primary school where I was a pupil way back in the 1940s! This was quite an experience, I hope the children got as much out of it as I did!
I visited the Knightswood Community Center where my father was the first Warden (Manager) in the 50s. I spoke to the committee of the center and handed over a book for their Library(the center is mentioned in my book)
I had a phone call in the last week of my trip from a very old childhood friend who saw the article about me in the paper and managed to contact me by phone; too late unfortunately for us to catch up.
Brian (Cheyene) was a close pal of mine from the early 50s. He lived across the street from me, and we were in the cubs & scouts together. Brian would often accompany dad and me when we went climbing. (Brian's photo appears in my book)
Two school friends who I've managed to catch up with on each visit back to Scotland are Tom & Alex from my secondary School, Victoria Drive; which sadly is no longer. We met up in town on a couple of occasions and relived our school days when we were 'useless but saveable' ! I'm rather sad that this would most likely be the last time we'd catch up.....
